The Prez Sez…..

Oregon Trail Winnies & Itascas State Club

“The Prez Sez”

July 01, 2014

breaking news

The Club met this past weekend at Seven Feathers RV Resort in Canyonville, Oregon to put some finishing details to the plan for the 2014 Annual State WIT Rally.  Attendance was lower than usual with only thirteen (13) coaches showing up. However, we did fill in some of the blanks for the Rally Program and enjoyed a good time at one of the best RV Resorts in the Nation.  I didn’t hear of anyone winning a fortune at the Casino.  Cascade Travelers were the perfect hosts.

The low attendance seems to be a trend as we continue to lose members because of illness, age, and lost interest.  Somehow we must find a way to recruit younger members and keep our RV lifestyle interesting enough to attract them.  I’ve asked WIT to send an E-mail to all Oregon WIT Members announcing our Annual Rally in September.  It has been suggested that we might combine Chapters or combine Chapter outings and do more “Friendship Rallies” in the future to attract new members.  “Friendship Rallies” require permission from WIT and advertising in the WIT Club News in the “Who’s Inviting Travelers” section.  That involves advance planning and action on our part.  I think it is worth making an effort to do so.

As for the Rally, we have a new Winnebago Dealer in Eugene who sells Winnebago Trailers and fifth wheels and is considering sponsoring (paying for) one of our dinners!  Guaranty and Roberson will be there with coaches as well.  A special attraction will be the “Old Time Winnebago Club” from Washington who plan to bring five vintage (eyebrow) coaches to our Rally.  The band from last year will return and will play before and after dinner Saturday evening.

Unfortunately Ellie and I will not be able to attend the Rally.  Grandson #2 is getting married in Oklahoma September 20th and we will be driving our motor home there on September 8th to attend the wedding.  Our granddaughter will have her 17th Birthday in Oklahoma September 24th as an added attraction. I’m confident and grateful once again that all the folks who usually make the Rally a great success will do so this year without me.  In the meantime, I will do what I can to help in the preparations for the Rally.
